Write-In Candidate for NY-14

Lucienne Canet

The Only Real Independent Campaign in NY-14

About The Race

Both the right and the left have failed our country. In NY-14 alone, Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lied about how they would build affordable housing and provide jobs under the "Green New Deal for Public Housing".

Instead, Democrats collaborated with real estate interests to convince public housing residents with the lowest carbon footprint to accept 'green' contracts, where buildings undergoing conversion are at increased risk of privatization.

Today, the tenants of these 'green buildings' face the highest risk of eviction.

AOC also supported multiple lockdowns after the first lockdown in a district that had already achieved herd immunity. As a result, our district experienced consumer flight, where people would go shop and eat in the suburbs instead of in our district. This led to the bankruptcy of hundreds of small businesses in our area.

She also voted to send billions of our taxpayer money to Nazis in Ukraine, and voted 'present' instead of NO funding to Israel while crying as if her millionaire pain is the same as that of the injured children of Palestine.

She refused to take a position on reparations for African-Americans by asking 'Who is Black?', ignoring the millions of American citizens that place reparations at the top of their policy demands.

While pretending to fight for immigrant rights, she removed 'Abolish ICE' from her website and compared Puerto Rican independence to Brexit.

BOTH AOC and Marty Dolan, her zionist opponent endorse Jim Crow, Genocide Joe, and sending our hard-earned money to endless wars.

We need a new economic vision for our country and candidates in every district that put AMERICA, not Israel or Ukraine, first.

Welcome to our Write-In Revolt.

Federal Advocacy Goals

These are goals which congressional reps cannot implement alone at
the district level, but which I will work to advocate for.

The Real New Deal for Home Ownership

NYC used to be a place where many were actually able to own a home after working hard for a few years. Today, political candidates beg for our votes every 4 years, and tell us to be satisfied with minor improvements to public housing. We need a federal plan to make home ownership affordable. We can start locally by pressuring NYCHA to turn public housing units over to tenants that have made a lifetime of rental payments equivalent to a mortgage, and by pulling people together to organize housing cooperatives.

A National Public Bank

The Federal Reserve is not owned by American citizens, but by member banks. We need a National Public Bank owned by Americans that prioritizes issuing credit for national infrastructure: including roads, housing, rail, water and sewer systems. Otherwise, NYC will continue to experience flooding, because our clogged sewer system is over 100 years old and still contains clay pipes. We will pressure the government to take these infrastructure repairs seriously, and not just blame flooding on Climate Change. Without a National Bank, it will also be impossible to fund other sorely needed federally funded projects, such as Medicare for All.

An Anti-Human Trafficking Agenda

We have women and children in our district that are at risk of human trafficking, and our government is turning a blind eye to the problem. We need to protect all children, as well as high risk groups like immigrant children and children in our foster care system from abuse by training the general public & parents to identify signs of human trafficking. Instead of just telling people that 'sex work is work' like progressives do - we should be tireless in providing alternative job opportunities for women and lgbtq+ individuals that do not want to work in the trade, while respecting the individual freedom of those that do.

A New GI Bill for African-Americans

It is long past time to bridge the wealth gap in this country between African-Americans in general and the rest of the population, but conversations about reparations have been blocked at the national level by the party divide and by the intentional denial of the fact that many other groups, such as Jewish Americans and Japanese Americans have already received reparations while African-Americans still have not. We can start locally by pressuring 'liberal' institutions like Columbia University that claim to support diversity but benefitted from slavery - to pay local, African-American citizens what these institutions earned during the slave trade, adjusted for inflation. The push for reparations, locally can also take the form of a formal boycott of local banks like Citibank with a history of financial involvement in slavery, and local pressure applied until these banks pay some sort of reparations to the communities where they caused harm. At the federal level, we should be pushing the government to create a New GI Bill for African-Americans, with full housing downpayments afforded to descendants of veterans that were excluded from buying properties in the suburbs during segregation.

Ending the Zionist Occupation of America

Zionism is an authoritarian and anti-semitic ideology originally from England that has nothing to do with Judaism; which has taken over our government, with a majority of our elected officials receiving funding from AIPAC, a private lobby. In fact, zionists collaborated with Nazis to persuade the German public that Jews could no longer live in Europe and to force their resettlement in Israel. AIPAC is also now threatening the free speech of American citizens and the constitution through a controversial new bill that equates anti-zionism to anti-semitism. We must pressure AIPAC to register as a foreign lobby and re-open a national investigation into the events on 9/11. To improve our relationship with the Middle East, we must end all aid to Israel and call back recent settlers from the NYC area with the goal of helping them reintegrate into American society should they wish to return. Finally, we must advocate for a one-state secular solution, which involves a change to the Israeli constitution that allows for the Palestinian right of return to ALL occupied territories.

Amnesty for the CAFTA-NAFTA Immigration Wave (1994-2010)

Our immigration system has become extremely classist, with new immigrants being approved for professional, engineering or nursing visas every year, but no permanent solution for the construction, restaurant and retail workforce that keeps this city running. Since our last immigration amnesty law in 1986, we have had millions of immigrants, particularly from the CAFTA-NAFTA migration wave that have been lied to by politicians offering 'a path to citizenship' since the Obama era while excluding multiple working class labor categories from the application process. Many undocumented people in our district have been in the country for over 20 years with grown, American children - and no path to citizenship in sight. Taxpaying individuals from the CAFTA-NAFTA wave that occurred before 2010 should be immediately legalized, with working class categories added to the immigration application process - so that immigrant boomers have the option of retiring in their nations of origin. This 'great return' will also free up many currently occupied affordable rental units and decrease local healthcare costs spent on the boomer generation.

Reinstate Glass Steagall

A new Glass-Steagall Act is urgently needed to restore a financial system that is less risky, more stable and resilient, and better able to serve the needs of our economy and society. Glass-Steagall’s structural separation of the banking, securities, and insurance sectors prevented financial panics from spreading across the U.S. financial system for more than four decades. Despite Glass-Steagall’s success, large U.S. banks pursued a twenty-year campaign to remove the statute’s prudential buffers. The reinstatement of Glass Steagall is key to decreasing the volatility of our economy and the 10-year boom and bust cycles that have become a recurrent feature of our floundering economy.

Fight the Student Debt Scam

The cost of college in the United States has more than tripled over the past 50 years, with universities using a large portion of student tuition for financial speculation instead of education. Today, universities in the United States have used alumni donations and student tuition to invest more than $130 billion in hedge funds, while graduating students frequently are not able to obtain high-paying jobs post-graduation. We will address this by demanding that universities disclose all investments. Universities then must be held liable for fraudulent marketing, and profits from these hedge funds are to be used to reimburse alumni that were taken advantage of. Incoming students should receive full disclosure of what their tuition is spent on.

End Sanctions against Developing Nations

Our foreign policy is broken, and economic sanctions against developing nations do not hurt the governments, but the people of those nations. We must end sanctions on developing nations and their extremely negative side effects like poverty, economic stagnation, poor health outcomes and malnutrition. Additionally, countries under sanctions have higher out-migration rates, which eventually affects us right here in New York City. We can no longer tackle the dual pressures of being a sanctuary city for the global poor while simultaneously taking care of our own citizens. We must nip this problem in the bud by ending all sanctions against countries like Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, Afghanistan and Russia - to allow these countries to develop despite any political differences we may have with them - so that people can stay and thrive in their own countries.

Things We Can Do Locally

Without the Federal Government

Urban Farming Network

Inflation is hitting gas prices, which increases transport costs for fresh produce. Even the most densely populated areas have empty lots, fences and public space that can be used for urban farming and production of healthy food. With the increased prospect of world war and the possibility of sanctions against the United States, it will be necessary to go local and produce as much fresh local food as possible as a bulwark against inflation.

A People's University

University professors across the city are being fired for speaking out against zionism. We will prioritize fundraising for these teachers to come to NY-14 and teach the public for free.

We will also promote fundraising for a local skillshare so that people can share practical skills such as construction, carpentry, design, coding and engineering during periods of unemployment.

Additionally, we need a conversational exchange language program - so that people can 'trade' language skills for free. Today, many jobs require knowledge of a foreign language, such as Spanish or Mandarin, and many American citizens are not equipped for this changing job market. Through our conversational exchange, American citizens will be able to get real foreign language practice, and immigrants will be able to speed up their command of English to better integrate into American society.

The People's University should also prioritize the preservation and promotion of indigenous languages as well as traditional indigenous medicine and chinese medicine, both of which are focused on preventive care and immune support.

As libraries are currently closed on Sundays due to government cuts, we are also requesting that those that want to donate to this campaign send books instead to one of the many community rooms in our district, which can double as space used for reading and classes.

Community Watch

From the murder of Amadou Diallo in the 90's to the more recent murder of Win Rozario, our district has an unfortunate history of police violence causing needless death and suffering. While this campaign supports the push to End Qualified Immunity through a proposed amendment to the State Constitution, New York State does not yet allow constituents to propose amendments at the state level. The short-term solution is for other candidates to step up and run at the state level to force a change in New York State law.

What this campaign can do is participate alongside a movement of people at the district level willing to volunteer for Community Watch. This will ensure that there are local alternatives to calling the police, but that there is still a concerted community effort made to prevent and address the local crime and gang violence responsible for the lives of victims like Lesandro Guzman-Feliz and Reda Girgis.

When it comes to the balance between a police presence and the lack of one, we must address both issues - the police violence, and the police neglect that stems from a lazy and overfunded bureaucracy. Unlike other 'businesses', police funding is not meritocratic, and not based on department performance. This must change at the local level with real promotions for hard-working police officers and real pay cuts and accountability for police officers that are violent, corrupt or allow gangs to operate without consequences.

Uvalde made it clear - despite all the funding the police department receives, the police is frequently not available or responsive when needed. This leads us to the terrible conclusion that the police force as it currently stands, despite the fact that many individual officers take their jobs and responsibilities very seriously, is not effective in combatting crime. Only a constantly vigilant community watch composed of parents and other concerned community members - at the block level - can help us confront this problem head on.

Worker Cooperatives

Worker cooperatives can be an important tool for keeping jobs in the commmunity, but they frequently lack resources. We will work with non-profit organizations to teach people about worker cooperatives, help them obtain funding and encourage the public to shop at these establishments. We will hold events with local small businesses to encourage new partnerships and pooling of small business resources to create cooperatives at a district level.

Promotion of Affordable Colleges Abroad & Trade School

With college becoming increasingly unaffordable, our kids will need alternative options. We will hold events showcasing opportunities with both trade schools and colleges abroad, to help the next generation avoid crippling debt.

Local Manufacturing & The Bodega Project

While it is difficult to do all manufacturing locally, there are certain sectors where New York has a competitive advantage, such as our high quality and plentiful water and our thriving restaurant sector. We should encourage the local production of bottled water, juices and healthier soft drinks, to be sold at local bodegas and restaurants at a reduced price relative to imports. This will not only create local jobs but allow us to tackle the diabetes epidemic in children, which is directly linked to consumption of cheap, sugar-sweetened beverages. We can also hold events to identify other opportunities for local manufacturing.

East Bronx Garbage Cleanup

Every 2 years democratic campaign volunteers come to NY-14 to demand votes, and barely even bother to volunteer to pick up some trash. Volunteers for this campaign will be immediately put to work spending at least a few hours in one of the more neglected blocks of our district. Out-of-district volunteers especially will be encouraged to participate in garbage cleanup - as outsiders as frequently seen as telling people in our district who to vote for without helping to improve the district.

FCU Membership Drive

Federal Credit Unions are an important banking alternative to the big banks, and there is no reason that we should not be promoting membership at FCU's throughout our district on a rolling basis. FCU's provide lower interest rates, better terms, and are more likely to provide loans to small businesses.

Vaccine Injury Support Groups

In February 2020, I had Covid-19 and severe pneumonia, which I recovered from with two months of rest and doxycicline. Despite the fact that I had gained immunity against the virus, I took the vaccine months later as part of my employment contract. Later on, I learned that the vaccine had a number of negative side effects that were not fully disclosed to the public, and which can incur a number of side effects that people are still struggling with including increased risk of cardiac arrest, infertility, myocarditis and pericarditis, and increased risk of stroke, among other health issues. Around a year later, a family member of mine had a case of myocarditis, which I later learned was a possible side effect of the vaccine.

We must break the silence on vaccine injuries, which has been encouraged by the Republican/Democrat partisan divide, and hold meetups and events for people that want to discuss their health experiences and health recovery tips & tricks with each other, without blame or accusations of conspiracy theory.

Military Recruitment Boycott

Military recruiters are preying on our teenagers to feed the wars in Ukraine and Israel as well as other ongoing conflicts worldwide. When our young people come back as veterans, the VA is frequently unresponsive to their physical and mental health needs.

Additionally and even more shockingly, several Bronx teenagers, including Vanessa Guillen and Abdul Latifu were murdered at basic training before even being deployed.

We need to stop sacrificing our children to these senseless wars and demand better for our family members. We will help organizations that are already doing the work rally around recruitment sites to encourage our teenagers to pursue other paths, and continue to bring attention to the deaths of our young people at the federal level, both abroad and during basic training.
